Bloat BFF

Fast-acting herbs and enzymes that help reduce occasional gas and bloating caused by hard-to-digest foods.*

Bloating sucks – especially when it happens after even the healthiest foods. For those with chronic gut issues like SIBO, bloating and gas can increase when we start incorporating more fiber-rich foods (beans & broccoli, we want to love you). That’s where Bloat BFF comes in: a SIBO-safe formula for the most sensitive stomachs, designed to be fast acting and give you the freedom to eat what you love without uncomfortable side effects. Our first of its kind formula contains a blend of herbs, enzymes, and a spore-based probiotic strain specifically studied for its ability to improve digestion, enhance the gut microbiome, and reduce bloating by eliminating excess gas buildup. This easy, one-capsule dose is your new best friend — and works wonders thanks to a multi-pronged approach that targets 4 main causes of bloat: maldigestion of protein and carbohydrates, gut dysbiosis, slow motility, and food triggers. Contains ingredients that help with the most common offenders, like beans and dairy.*

About the

Formula

Targets the top 4 causes of bloat

Up to 74% of Americans live with digestive symptoms that can create discomfort and get in the way of daily activities. From a root-cause lens, there are 4 main bloating triggers that contribute to feelings of distention and fullness:

- Maldigestion of carbohydrates and protein

- Gut microbiome imbalances like SIBO

- Slow gut motility (constipation)

- Food triggers: dairy, legumes, and high-FODMAP foods like onions, wheat, brussels sprouts and cauliflower.

Our formula combines the power of herbs & two specific enzymes that aid digestion and reduce gas, with a clinically studied spore-forming probiotic strain that has been shown to significantly improve symptoms. Rather than containing herbs or enzymes alone, this blend takes a multi-pronged approach in order to target all 4 factors that contribute to bloating and discomfort. Bloating affects everyone differently;  some of us experience constipation, some of us have a hard time digesting protein, some of us deal with gut imbalances that make even healthy foods (like broccoli and beans) feel like less of a friend and more like a foe. By covering all of our bases with soothing herbs, fast-acting enzymes, and microbiome-supporting probiotics, this blend takes the guesswork out and supports even the most sensitive stomachs.*

  • Herbs-and-food-as-medicine

Because sluggish digestion and slow motility (aka constipation) are such strong drivers of bloating and discomfort, our formula contains a gut biome blend of powerful ginger and potent enzyme-containing fruits-as-medicine, papaya and pineapple.

Ginger root not only aids in supporting a healthy inflammatory environment within the gut, this beloved botanical also has the power to stimulate our own digestive enzymes, calm discomfort, and improve slow motility.

Pineapple contains a highly effective natural enzyme, bromelain, that aids in protein digestion and works wonders in the face of indulgent meals. Instead of using a standardized extract, we’ve chosen pineapple in its whole form in order to include the flavonoids, fiber, and antioxidants within this therapeutic food that help to modulate the microbiome and improve digestion over time. Papaya contains papain, another protein-digesting enzyme that aids digestion and discomfort, and is known to soothe the digestive tract while providing antioxidants and polyphenols.*

  • Featuring BS50, a patent-pending probiotic

To round out this formula that helps even the most sensitive stomachs, we chose a probiotic strain that is SIBO-safe and well tolerated in those with recurring digestive issues and microbiome imbalance. Spore-forming probiotics like BS50 Bacillus Subtilis increase your own microbial diversity, like an ‘adaptogen for the microbiome,’ without adding more bacteria into the terrain in cases where overgrowths may already be present. This clinically studied strain helps to alleviate gas from high-FODMAP foods that may trigger fermentation in the small intestine, helping you eat more of the healthy foods you want to incorporate, whether that’s beans or more fiber-rich veggies, without discomfort.

When you have chronic gut issues, the first step many people take is to change their diet — consume healthier foods, eat more fiber, get more plants and color on your plate. Yet for many of us these ‘healthy’ dietary changes only bring more gas, bloating, and symptoms of discomfort. While it’s common to attribute this to food sensitivities, the underlying reason may actually be a microbial imbalance in the small intestinal environment: dysbiosis known as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth).

When the small intestine contains too much pathogenic bacteria, these bacteria can begin to ferment the healthiest of foods — the product of that fermentation is unwanted gas, bloating, and uncomfortable feelings of distention and pressure. Those with SIBO and chronic gut complaints may even find that taking a traditional probiotic supplement (or consuming probiotic foods and drinks, like Kombucha) actually worsens their symptoms. Even the ingestion of beneficial bugs can be like adding fuel to the fire.

The answer? Meet soil based, aka spore-forming probiotics: dormant when ingested, these beneficial bugs become active when they reach the nutrient-rich environment of the small intestine, and get to work producing enzymes and other active compounds that deter unwanted organisms. Their job is to gently push non-resident and potentially pathogenic bacteria out of the small intestine, helping to restore proper microbial diversity and balance.

But unlike most probiotic strains, spore-forming probiotics are not commensal to the gut — meaning they’re ideal for SIBO, as they leave the small intestine when they are done doing their job as a ‘re-balancer,’ and are less likely to contribute to any bacterial overgrowth that may be occurring. They don’t colonize the small intestine or feed the bacteria already growing there. Instead, these probiotics head straight to the large intestine and colon where they can support vibrant health benefits.

Spore-forming probiotics also produce necessary nutrients like short-chain fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants, and other compounds necessary for nurturing the gut lining and re-establishing the gut terrain.

Spore-forming probiotics are shown to have better outcomes, specifically for SIBO-type patients, compared to traditional probiotics like Lactobacillus. They are also superior to a low-FODMAP diet alone in relieving SIBO-like symptoms, according to recent research.

In a randomized, double-blind clinical trial of healthy adults, supplementation of BS50 Bacillus Subtilis (a spore-based probiotic strain) significantly improved symptoms of bloating, burping and flatulence in patients after 6 weeks of taking it (1). While the mechanism of action is still a topic of exploration, BS50 has been shown to secrete digestive enzymes, aiding in food digestion and resulting in reduced fermentation and gas production in the lower intestine (2). In particular, Bacillus subtilis produces enzymes that help break down complex carbohydrates and proteins – two things known to give us grief in the boating department. Additionally, BS50 and other spore-based probiotics actually increase nutrient concentrations in the gut which has a satiating effect on our brains, thus reducing the urge to overeat and mitigating bloat from simply being too full.

The story
behind the formula

You should be able to eat the foods you love (and the foods that love you back) without uncomfortable side effects. For some, that means a decadent dessert shared with loved ones, or a slice of pizza with friends; for others, that means incorporating more fiber-rich veggies for gut, hormone, and brain health.

Unfortunately, even the healthiest foods can cause bloating for those with chronic gut issues, making it feel as though you’re taking 10 steps backward when trying to make a positive change. While many attribute this to food sensitivities, the underlying reason may be related to a microbial imbalance in the small intestinal environment: dysbiosis known as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth).

Our goal was to create a SIBO-safe blend to help give those with recurring gut microbiome challenges the freedom to add more color and fiber to their plates without worrying about reactions and discomfort. We ensured that this formula not only helps in-the-moment, but contributes to better long term microbiome balance with use over time.
