BALANCE IN A BOTTLE
Bitter Botanicals
About the
Formula
Made with “blood sugar botanicals”
When it comes to maintaining a healthy response to meals (and getting off the hanger rollercoaster), herbalists turn to a mix of bitter and warming herbs that help to support a healthy cellular response to the meals we eat. GlucoBitters is formulated with ‘balancing botanicals,' aka digestive herbs rich in bitter phytochemicals that support not only digestion, but a stable response to meals energy-wise.*
When the bitter compounds in plants are detected by our taste buds, a cascade of messages gets sent to the brain triggering the release of digestive fluids to prepare your GI tract for the optimal breakdown of your meal. Studies are just beginning to uncover that the bitter alkaloids in key botanicals also support the secretion of a gut hormone that helps to balance our satiation cues, supporting the normal, healthy release of hormones and utilize food for energy.
The bitter botanicals within this blend include Gymnema, Bitter Melon, Gentian, Cinnamon, and more.*

The story
behind the formula
Last year, I decided to get serious about balance so that I could finally take my health to the next level and support my fitness. Besides weight lifting – which was life changing for me – one thing I implemented was taking a shot of apple cider vinegar before meals, as studies suggest that this can help us maintain a balanced response to food.
Vinegar was so effective for me that I went back to my herbalist roots and added a layer of functionality by infusing full strength herbs into a base of cider vinegar instead of alcohol or glycerin. I found this plant-powered formula to be even more efficacious than plain vinegar alone, and have been utilizing it ever since before meals, sweets and desserts (especially if I’m indulging without additional protein and fiber to dull the effects). I now bring it with me everywhere I go and gladly take a ‘shot’ in a glass of water at restaurants and while traveling to continue hitting my goals.*

-
Gymnema
Gymnema sylvestre
As “the sweet tooth slayer,” Gymnema works overtime to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Key for pancreatic health and healthy weight management, this herb supports the body in metabolizing glucose and maintaining normal insulin production.*
-
Bitter Melon
Momordica charantia
This potent, bitter ‘food as medicine’ is one of our most effective herbal tools for maintaining insulin sensitivity and supporting healthy blood sugar levels.*
-
Fenugreek
Trigonella foenum-graecum
Fenugreek is a warming, strengthening bitter that brings vitality back to sluggish systems; specifically, digestion and metabolism. As a blood-sugar-supporting botanical, this herb aids metabolic health and energy levels.
-
Cinnamon
Cinnamomum spp.
Cinnamon might already be a staple in your spice cabinet, but this digestive and immune powerhouse deserves prime real estate in your herbalism toolkit, too.*
-
Sweet Orange
Citrus sinensis
For hundreds of years, orange peels have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, primarily in immune-supporting and digestive remedies. This often-overlooked part of the fruit is perhaps the most beneficial of all, rich in phytochemicals and bitter compounds that support gut and lung health.*
-
Peppermint
Mentha piperita
There’s a reason peppermint is such a common post-meal breath refresher, and it’s not just its taste. This ancient herb helps support a healthy inflammatory response along with microbiome balance systemically, whether it’s providing assistance for digestion, hormones, the nervous system, or even cognition and mental clarity.*
-
Gentian
Gentiana lutea
Gentian is one of the most powerful digestive bitter tonics we have. Used traditionally for damp heat and stagnation in the stomach and liver meridians, she gives us a boost to say goodbye to what is no longer serving us (whether that’s something physical we need to eliminate through the digestive system, or thoughts and beliefs we’ve been chewing on).*
-
Bupleurum
Bupleurum chinense
Bupleurum is a traditional liver-supporting herb that helps to ‘release the floodgates’ in the midst of stagnation that may be disrupting the free-flow of the body’s vital energy.*
