Ditch the Sugary Starbucks: 40 Calorie Vanilla Bean Hazelnut Frappucino

Honestly, I haven’t had coffee in months – maybe a year now. I used to be addicted because I was so tired all the time. Once I went fully non-GMO, a lot of things changed, including my energy! I wake up rested and don’t need the caffeine. I have also realized how taxing coffee is on the adrenal system and would never drink it daily or even weekly again. However, as I always say, moderation is key! If coffee is something you used to love and gave up in exchange for a healthier lifestyle, here’s a way that you can enjoy it once in a while without spiking your blood sugar to the moon and ruining your day of clean eating.

I found this little bottle of heaven in Whole Foods. Stumptown Cold Brew Coffee is officially THE best coffee I’ve ever had, and it’s cold-brewed! There are a lot of people who can’t drink normal coffee because it’s too acidic for them. Drinking regular coffee can also contribute to an acidic state in the body, whereas we should be alkaline in order to be balanced and functional.

There is no hot water involved in cold brewing, so the oils in the coffee bean that contain high levels of acid aren’t melted into your cup. This gives you 65% less acidity and makes it gentler on the stomach and digestive system. You do not HAVE to use cold-brewed, but if you can find it I guarantee you’ll love it!

This stuff is delicious. I’m not afraid to say that it’s better than the sugary 5Bucks!
Here’s the recipe:
  • 3 ice cubes
  • 8oz organic unsweetened almond milk
  • 4oz coffee (cold-brewed is ideal but anything works)
  • 1 inch vanilla bean, chopped & ground OR 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp hazelnut extract
  • 5 to 8 drops liquid stevia (LESS is more, start with 5 drops and taste as you go!) 

Put all ingredients in a blender. SO EASY. So good.
